One of the best things to have happened recently was the announcement that the Indy Car series is coming back to the Milwaukee Mile in 2024! They will be in Milwaukee on August 31, 2024 for one race and then following day September 2 for another race.
So happy to see that they are bringing the Indy Cars back to the historic Milwaukee Mile. On the morning of October 18th I got to see some of the improvements that are being done to the track and facility.
Firestone also ran a tire test at the Milwaukee Mile and Will Power ran the first laps in 8 years of an Indy Car. Will Power and Team Penske were ready to go at 10am on the dot.
The Team Ganassi car of Linus Lundquist came out a little while later.
Enjoy a look at the first lap and laps of an Indy Car with Will Power at the Milwaukee Mile since the 2015 ABC Supply Wisconsin 250.
Sebastian Bourdais won the race in 2015 but Will Power won it in 2014. Will sure looked as if he enjoyed being back at the Milwaukee Mile.
Go get some tickets and join us August 31st and September 1, 2024 at the Milwaukee Mile.
First, thank you to everyone who wished me Happy Birthday on Saturday, August 30th when I turned 60!!! That was a big one and a great day thanks to all of you and my wife Claudia.
So, life goes on and we have a new IRL champ after the race last night in Fontana, California.
I was pulling for Helio Castroneves to win the championship. He has not won one yet and he has been trying for many years to become the IRL champion.
Helio, did not become the IRL champion, but one of his teammate's with team Penske, Will Power, did. Congratulations to Will. He too has been trying for many years to get the championship.
Here we look at some photographs of Will Power that I took in 2007, 2008 and 2014.
In June of 1990, the CART Indy Cars came to the Milwaukee Mile for their traditional visit the weekend after the Indy 500. The cars in 1990 were full of horsepower and had a sexier look compared to those of today. The helmets were also very different back then and this was before the now manditory HANS device for neck support. Back then, drivers simply used a foam donut collar for support!!
Emerson Fittipaldi was, and still is, my favorite race car driver. In 1990 he had the number 1 on his car after winning the Indy Car Championship the year before. He had won in Formula One cars, retired and then came back in winning form with Roger Penske's racing team. Emerson raced for a few more years and even tried being an Indy car team owner with Tiago Montiero as a driver for a year. I miss seeing Emerson drive these days because he really had determination to win whenever he was in the race car.
Attached are a few photographs from the race at the Milwaukee Mile in 1990 and a photo of the qualifying speeds on the board that was used that day. This was still a time when we just had a board instead of computer screens everywhere with information for us all to see!!
